Qualampur: The government will give prizes to the high-end chip design framework of the Arm Compute Sub-Social (CSS) token-arm holdings, which meets the selection criteria at the next KL20 conference in the coming months, the economy minister Datuk Seri Rafiji Ramli said.
He said that through the ecosystem partnership with ARM holdings, Malaysia will work to develop complex design companies with ARM’s intellectual property expertise and design based on the offer of ARM’s “Crown Jewel” – CSS.
“For each CSS, we want to build a full supply chain in advanced industries such as AI data servers, autonomous vehicles, IOTs, Robotics and others. The perspective of an ecosystem also means that we would prioritize the first resort for every part of the supply chain to local players, ”he said today with Arm Limited with the launch of Silicon Vision 2025 in his speech.
Rafiji said that it has placed a cooperation structure with advanced foreign firms, proposed technology transfer and localization requirements, so that it can uplift the local players in a realistic and overall way.
“In the next few months, we will show progress on this hand cooperation: by launching a 10 -year vision blueprint, announcing recipients of CSS tokens, highlighting cooperation with local players, and showing these technology prototypes at the next KL20 summit,” he shared.
Rafiji said that the semiconductor industry of Malaysia should move beyond the OSAT (backand) that captures 5–10% of the value, for integrated circuit design that captures more than 60% of the supply chain value.
“Our economic strategy requires Malaysia to create a local, indigenous technology for high margin export and supply chain flexibility. We need to enter into new technology sectors such as AI, robotics, autonomous vehicles and IOT, ”he said.
According to media reports, Rafiji told reporters on Monday that the US would pay $ 250 million (RM1.1 billion) in 10 years to acquire the Malaysia firm’s chip design plans.
Malaysia aims to produce its own graphics processing unit chips within the next five to 10 years to meet artificial intelligence and increasing demand for data centers.
The agreement includes access to seven of ARM’s high-end chip design blueprint and a commitment to train 10,000 engineers in Malaysia.
The government hopes that the deal will help scale local semiconductor companies, with a target of generating a US $ 2 billion US $ 2 billion with a target of generating an annual revenue of US $ 1.5 billion.
