Lean hog futures are trading mixed, down 20 cents from 30 cents at the close. USDA national base hog prices have not been reported since Friday morning due to light volumes. The CME Lean Hog Index was down 55 cents at $93.63 on Oct. 22.
USDA pork carcass cutout prices rose $2.95 to $102.66 per cwt as of Friday morning’s report. The picnic was the only initial report. The USDA estimated it inspected 486,000 pig slaughters at the federal level Wednesday, for a weekly total of 1.958 million pigs. This is down 2,000 head from the previous week but up 10,624 head from the same week last year.
