Negeri Sembilan Immigration rescues an injured Indonesian maid found hiding in a cupboard, detaining her employer on suspected human trafficking charges.
Seremban: The Negeri Sembilan Immigration Department today rescued an Indonesian domestic helper suspected of exploitation during an operation at a residence in Taman Kemayan.
Director Kenneth Tan Aye Kiang said the 51-year-old woman was found hiding inside a wardrobe in the master bedroom. The two-hour proceedings began at 1 p.m.
Investigation revealed that the victim did not have any valid travel document or pass. She was also in a state of shock due to physical and mental abuse.
The victim was taken to the Senawang Immigration Office for safety and to assist in further investigation under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.
A local woman employer was detained to assist in the investigation under Section 12 of the same Act. Summons notices were issued to two other persons to depose as witnesses.
Tan said the rescue operation was conducted using the National Guidelines on Human Trafficking Indicators 2.0 as a reference for identifying trafficking victims.
He reiterated the department’s commitment to combat all forms of exploitation and abuse. The public is encouraged to pass any relevant information to authorities.
