yeti are cooler One of the rare products that is both practical and somewhat of a status symbol (at least depending on what kind of crowd you attend). The Austin-based brand makes excellent, if not over-built, coolers that set a new standard for the category when they first hit the market. That legacy continues, as the Yeti Tundra still holds the top spot in our guide for the best coolers.
There are plenty of other rotomolded coolers available now, many with similar quality and lower prices, but there’s just something about the Yeti. People have a long-standing love for the brand, born out of memorable outdoor adventures and long nights by the fire. It’s one of those brand names that you start using casually in conversation. Put it in the Yeti! Can you get me another cold one from Yeti? How does the snow stay in the Yeti? Now, many top Yeti Tundra coolers are on sale just in time for summer vacations and outdoor outings.
The Tundra 45 is a classic do-it-all cooler that’s small enough to fit in the back of most cars but big enough to last a long weekend (as long as you have plenty of ice in it). There are several colors available for sale on Amazon, including a patriotic red with navy blue accents. This cooler is bear-resistant and will hold a 24-pack of foam with a little bit of space. It weighs 23 pounds, so one person should be able to carry it when loaded, though probably not very far.
If you want to build a cooler to carry, check out the Hopper. Yeti’s soft-sided cooler is not currently on sale on Amazon, where you’ll find it selling for $300. However, it’s priced at $199 at Ace Hardware, and depending on where you live, there’s a good chance you can buy it online and pick it up later today. This bag is built for carrying to Shakespeare or quick-format events on beaches or in the park—not for long hauls in the snow in the backcountry.
As the name suggests, this is your classic road-trip cooler. The Roadie 15 fits between two people in the back seat of a car (depending on the people, of course – with my two people this cooler would be quite tight in most cars). It holds a 12-pack with plenty of ice and opens easily so you can grab another soda without looking. There’s also room to squeeze a few candy bars that you don’t want melting in the front seat. Roadies are rarely this affordable, and the yellow version sounds great to me.
