Kuala Lumpur: Keyfield International Bhd has completed its pilot solar photovoltaic (PV) project on its largest vessel Keyfield Wisdom (formerly known as Blooming Wisdom), a work barge accommodating 500 people.
The project was undertaken in collaboration with turnkey project contractor Worldwide Holdings Bhd, renowned for its expertise in energy efficiency and sustainability.
Recently commissioned, the solar PV system includes the installation of a 121.2kWp solar hybrid system with a battery energy storage system that reduces Keyfield Wisdom’s reliance on onboard generator sets, thereby reducing its fuel consumption and carbon emissions. There is a cut in. The Malaysia Book of Records has also certified Keyfield Wisdom for having the most solar panels with battery storage on an offshore vessel.
Mohammed Irwan Ahmed, Group Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director of Keyfield, said, “We are extremely thrilled that this solar PV system is now fully completed and operational. It reflects our commitment to advancing sustainability within the maritime industry, representing an important step in our Group’s environmental, social and governance journey. By adopting innovative solutions to green our assets within the space limits of our ships, we aim to contribute to global climate action while achieving long-term operational excellence.
He said the solar PV project is part of their broader strategy to increase energy efficiency in their operations.
“We started this project on our own initiative because we understand that it aligns well with the sustainability agenda of our customers such as Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd and Sarawak Shell Bhd/Sabah Shell Petroleum Co Ltd. When they hire This will reduce their operating costs. Our ships are equipped with such a system,” he said.
Alif Shah, Worldwide Chief Operating Officer (Renewable Energy Division) said, “As Keyfield’s EPCC (engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning) partner, we have demonstrated our commitment to driving and supporting green energy initiatives. Played a vital role in delivering this sustainable solution to the maritime industry. From concept to completion, the project was executed with exceptional precision.
He said one challenge for this project was the time factor.
Due to her chartering commitments to her customers, Keyfield Wisdom was only available for us to carry out the work when it was docked in Labuan while undergoing its periodic maintenance operations. Nevertheless, we managed to complete the project 15 days ahead of schedule, which reflects the effective coordination and dedication of all parties involved. The recognition from Malaysia Book of Records was the icing on the cake,” he said.
