Former Harvard University President Larry Summers has announced he will step back from public commitments, according to the Ivy League college’s student newspaper.
In a statement released Monday to The Harvard Crimson, Summers said it was part of an effort to “rebuild trust and repair relationships with those closest to me.”
The announcement comes after the United States House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform released seven years of correspondence between Summers and disgraced financier Jeffrey E. Epstein.
Epstein claimed he briefed a Russian diplomat on how to deal with Trump in newly released emails.

The documents revealed that the two men continued to exchange messages until July 5, 2019, just a day before Epstein’s arrest on new sex-trafficking charges.
In hundreds of messages released, Summers also appeared to confide in Epstein and tell him about exploring a romantic relationship with a woman he described as a protégé.
One of the messages released was from November 2018 in which Epstein describes himself as Summers’ “wing man”, as he advised Summers on the relationship for months.

“I am deeply ashamed of my actions and recognize the pain they have caused,” Summers wrote in his statement to the Crimson.
“I take full responsibility for my wrong decision to continue communicating with Mr. Epstein,” he said.
Summers has many roles in her professional life. He is a senior fellow at the think tank Center for American Progress, a paid columnist for Bloomberg News, and a board member at OpenAI.
