Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is facing allegations that he copied parts of his 1995 doctoral thesis at Oxford University without proper credit. This report comes when he is demanding elections to remain the PM of the country next month when Canadian voters go to elections on April 28.
The National Post reviewed Carney’s thesis with three university experts, “The Dynamic Advantage of Competition”, who found at least 10 examples of clear literary theft.
Experts told the National Post that Carney copied full quotes from four different sources, parafed ideas and slightly modified sentences without giving appropriate credit.

“He is repeating directly without quotation. This is literary theft,” told the National Post.
Carney’s campaign responded to the National Post with a statement by his former Oxford Supervisor, Margaret Mayor, who dismissed the allegations. “I have no evidence of literary theft in the thesis,” he said. “Mark’s work was fully researched and approved by a faculty committee on the work of Mark.”

The Mayor also told the National Post that “it is specific that the overlapping language appears” if the sources are regularly referred to.
Oxford University presents literary theft “from another source as its own without full acceptance.” Another professor, speaking anonymously to the National Post, said that the thesis of Carney fulfills that definition.
Isabella Orozco-Madison, a spokesman for Carney’s campaign, called the allegations “irresponsible misunderstandings” of his work.

Economist Michael E. Porter’s 1990 book, “The Contestant Advantage of Nations”, is shown copying a route. On page 206 of his thesis, Carney wrote: “First, government intervention can disrupt international competition and artificially support domestic profits.” This is similar to the original word of the porter.

Carney reportedly Jeremy C. Stein’s 1989 article was copied classes with only minor words with articles in Economics and HS Shin’s 1994 Rand Journal of Economics in Economics and HS Shin’s 1994 Rand Journal of Economics.
Possible literary theft appears throughout the thesis. “All this is on dissertation, not only one part,” the Ciglett said. Even changes in small words without proper quotes are still considered literary theft.
Oxford University has warned that literary theft is a serious offense that can lead to punishment, including expulsion. “Even when you prepare something again, you still need to cite the source,” the Ciglett said.

However, allegations of literary theft have resigned and canceled for politicians and academics in the past.
Last year, President Claudin Gay of Harvard University stepped into the claims of literary theft, although he denied the wrongdoing.
