Paris: French President Emmanuel Macron said on Friday that Israel had the right to protect itself and called for a “maximum restraint” from all parties after a wave of Israeli attacks on Iran.
“France confirmed Israel’s right to protect itself and ensure its safety,” Macron said on X.
“To avoid endangering the stability of the entire region, I ask all parties to use maximum restraint and D-esscale.”
Israel instigated Iran into a series of air raids, killing 100 goals, including atoms and military sites, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces.
Macron spoke after holding a meeting of the National Defense and Security Council.
“All necessary steps will be taken to protect our citizens and our diplomatic and military missions,” Macron said.
Earlier on Friday, French Foreign Minister also requested restraint.
Jean-Noel Barot said on X, “We can reduce all sides to exercise restraint and to avoid any increase.”
In 2015, Iran has gradually separated from its commitments under the nuclear deal with world powers including the United States and France.
The Landmark deal provided relief to Iran’s sanctions in exchange for curb on its nuclear program, but it separated after the United States’s unilateral return during the first term of US President Donald Trump in 2018.
