kuala lumpur: Agriculture and Food Security Minister Mohammad Sabu says Iran is interested in increasing imports of a number of Malaysian products, including tropical fruits, palm oil, urea and clothing, as well as expanding market access for meat and dairy products between the two countries.
He said the matter was discussed during his meeting with his counterpart Gholamreza Nouri Ghazalzeh of the Islamic Republic of Iran here today as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the agriculture and agri-food sectors.
In a video uploaded by the media team of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Islamic Republic of Iran and shared on its Facebook page, Mohammad said that the two sides also discussed a proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which was currently in the technical stage for refinement before being finalized.
“We also discussed efforts to strengthen agricultural technology transfer for the mutual benefit of both countries.
Mohammad also praised Iran’s long-term planning in ensuring the country’s food security despite facing wartime conditions.
Earlier, Mohammed led the Malaysian government delegation to pay last respects to former Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei at the Grand Mosallah in Tehran.
In a Facebook post, he said tribute ceremonies for the late leader would be held over several days, starting in Tehran and then moving to Qom, Najaf and Karbala, with his remains to be buried at the Imam Reza holy shrine in Mashhad on July 9.
The tribute and mourning ceremony is being held more than 100 days after Khamenei was killed in a strike by the United States and Israel on February 28.
