The full moon is tomorrow, but for now, we are still in the previous stage of the lunar cycle. The lunar chakra is the process of visibility of the moon. According to NASA, there are eight stages, and the entire cycle takes about 29.5 days.
Tonight, keep reading to know what is happening on 6 October.
What is today’s moon phase?
On Monday, October 6, the Moon Charan is waxing gibbous, and according to NASA’s Daily Moon observation, 99% of its surface is illuminated tonight.
So, what can you see tonight? With no visual AIDS (and a clear sky) you should be able to catch a glimpse of copricus crater, mare ficunditis and mare tranquilitis. With binoculars, you will also see Apennine Mountains, Mare Amrit, and Gassendi Crater. If you have a telescope, you can also see Apollo 15 and 17 landing spots and Fra Mauro Highlands.
When is the next full moon?
The next full moon will be on 7 October. The last full moon was on 7 September.
What are the moon phase?
NASA states that the moon passes through stages as it completes its 29.5-day orbit around the Earth. The cause of the changing angles between the Sun, the Moon and the Earth causes the different stages we see. From the Earth, the moon can be full, partially burnt, or even completely disappear, but we always see the same side. Depending on its position in the orbit, what is the change of sunlight reflected from its surface.
The eight main moon stages are as follows:
Mashed light speed
The new moon – the moon is between the Earth and the Sun, so the aspect we see is dark (in other words, it is invisible to the eye).
Waxing Crescent – A small piece of light appears on the right (northern hemisphere).
The first quarter – half of the moon is burnt to the right. It resembles a half moon.
Waxing gibbous – is burnt more than half, but it is not yet filled.
Purna Chandra – The entire face of the moon is enlightened and fully visible.
waning gibbous – Moon starts losing light on the right side.
last quarter (Or third quarter) – Another half moon, but is now lit on the left.
waning crescent – Before going to dark again, there is a thin sliver of light on the left side.
