PUTRAJAYA: The National Cyber Security Agency (Nacsa) signed a memorandum of understanding with Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Huawei Malaysia) to promote cooperation in Malaysia’s cybersecurity and cryptology initiatives, including cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI) security and digital sovereignty.
The exchange of the MOU took place on the sidelines of the 2nd Naxa Cyber Security Summit (NCSS) 2026 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre, in the presence of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The partnership will facilitate information sharing and technical discussion, explore joint research, support training and capacity building, and promote innovation and technology development.
Additionally, the partnership will promote mutual understanding of legislative and technical requirements in cryptology – the application of encryption, authentication and other technologies that enable secure communications and data security – and cybersecurity.
The collaboration will also explore potential areas of cooperation in AI security and digital sovereignty, including policy dialogue, governance frameworks and technical considerations in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. This will support the development of robust governance frameworks and safeguards to protect critical infrastructure and essential services as AI becomes increasingly embedded in critical sectors.
Huawei Malaysia Cybersecurity and Privacy Protection Officer Lee Han Ther said, “As cyber threats grow in scale and sophistication, closer collaboration between government and industry is essential to strengthen national resilience. Cybersecurity has become fundamental to economic growth, public trust and national competitiveness.”
He further added, through this collaboration with Naxa, they look forward to combining global expertise with local capacity building to help Malaysia strengthen its cybersecurity, enable safe and responsible adoption of AI, and contribute to the development of a secure, resilient and trusted digital ecosystem for the country.
Naxa, the national lead agency for cyber security under the National Security Council in the Department of the Prime Minister, will lead the collaboration, while Huawei Malaysia will serve as a technology enabler. This collaboration is in line with NAXA’s role in protecting the country’s national critical information infrastructure and coordinating national efforts against cyber threats.
