Sultan Ibrahim warns that all agencies including MACC are on the radar in anti-corruption campaign
Petaling Jaya: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is not exempt from scrutiny in the country’s sweeping anti-corruption drive, as His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim warned that more individuals are currently within their “radar” in their uncompromising mission to root out corruption across all government departments and agencies.
In a statement released on Facebook today by the Royal Press Office (RPO), the King made it clear that the fight against corruption does not extend to a handful of agencies or individuals, stressing that no one is above the law.
His Excellency described corruption as a betrayal of the people’s trust and stressed that it will not be tolerated in the administration of the country.
“Don’t think that fighting corruption is only focused on certain departments, or only focused on those who give and take (bribes),” Sultan Ibrahim said.
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong cautioned that enforcement bodies including the Royal Malaysia Police, the Immigration Department and the Royal Malaysian Customs Department were also keeping a close watch.
“The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission is also not excluded,” His Excellency said firmly.
Sultan Ibrahim further warned that rank, position or influence would not protect anyone from action.
Agents acting as “middlemen” as well as suppliers of equipment, uniforms and medical supplies were reminded that they come under scrutiny.
He said, “No matter what your rank is…you are also on my radar.”
Recalling the Malay proverb “He who eats chilli, finds it spicy”, His Excellency cautioned against assuming ignorance on his part.
“Don’t think I’m ignorant.
I have my own intelligence sources,” he said.
King stressed that anti-corruption efforts should not be limited to lip service or rhetoric, warning that superficial measures will not be enough to address systemic wrongdoing.
He further ordered that officers who fail to discharge their assigned duties with honesty and integrity should be transferred without delay.
“I have other options.
If there are officers who are unable to discharge their assigned responsibilities honestly, then give opportunity to those who are more qualified and clean to discharge that responsibility,” Sultan Ibrahim said.
