On ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday, New York Times White House correspondent Maggie Haberman said President Donald Trump has been “remarkably nonchalant about the midterms.”
Host George Stephanopoulos said, “We’ve had a series of public statements from the president over the last several weeks that indicate he doesn’t care that much about the midterms. What did they tell you?”
Haberman said, “He’s been remarkably unconcerned about the midterms. We haven’t gone in depth with him about, you know, how he sees the upcoming elections. But we know from people we’ve talked to and things he’s said publicly that he takes that into account. I think his quote was a matter of respect that Republicans do worse on the ballot without him. And so he sees it as a binary and a reflection of his own power versus something And I think he might start to care the closer we get to November, probably in September, and I think obviously people around him are very aware of that because he’s talking about how he’s going to grant pardons to anyone who comes within a certain radius of the Oval Office. Are.
