Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim sends Thaipusam greetings, highlighting the sacrifice, patience and unity that strengthen Malaysia’s multiracial harmony
Kuala Lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim extended Thaipusam greetings to all Hindus celebrating the festival today.
In a Facebook post, Anwar said Thaipusam is rich in meaning, symbolizing the value of sacrifice, reflection, spiritual strength and patience.
As such, he said the discipline and perseverance displayed during the observance of Thaipusam deserves respect and collective appreciation.
He said, “The order and harmony in every religious and cultural celebration in this country reflects the unity within the diversity of the Malaysian people, and that differences are not something foreign, but a reality that has long shaped Malaysia’s identity.”
In this regard, he expressed hope that Thaipusam will bring peace of mind to all Hindu devotees while promoting mutual respect and harmony within the multi-caste society of the country.
He also expressed hope that Thaipusam would be celebrated with gratitude and decency while maintaining the propriety and values that form the foundation of community life.
