Some Senate Democrats are reportedly ready to confirm Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as the next Health and Human Services (HHS) secretary, according to a report.
hill Multiple sources report that Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and John Fetterman (D-PA) are considering endorsing Kennedy. Sources believe Democrats and Kennedy are concerned about how corporations heavily influence food and how processed American food is now.
It comes as other Democrats have questioned Kennedy’s skepticism toward vaccines.
“I think Bernie will give him a fair review,” said sources close to the senator.
A source close to Sanders’ office said, “I certainly think his Senate office will use this opportunity to point out the shortcomings of the industrial food system, the supply chain, etc.”
The source added, “I think they’re already doing something like that.”
hill Note that Sanders wrote an op-ed for Guardian About several of his proposed health care reforms:
Arguing for overall reform in the food industry, the Vermont senator wrote: “Big food corporations should not be making record-breaking profits by addicting children to processed foods that make them overweight and more likely to develop diabetes and other diseases.” There is danger.”
His criticism echoes discussions made by Kennedy on the campaign trail and as part of the Trump-aligned “Make America Healthy Again” initiative. “For a start, we should ban junk-food advertising targeted at children and place stronger warning labels on products high in sugar, salt and saturated fat,” Sanders wrote. “In the long run, we can rebuild rural America with family farms that are producing healthy, nutritious food.”
“Fetterman has impressed me with his willingness to meet with Trump’s nominees without the usual partisan spin and humiliation associated with the process,” a Kennedy source said in a statement. hill,
“To me, he is signaling to MAGA that he is willing to work together on areas that can benefit people and help everyday people,” the source said.
The source said Fetterman is “definitely a swing vote for all of Trump’s nominees.”
The same sources said Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) could be another possible Democrat to support Kennedy.
