Petaling Jaya: According to IBM Malaysia, the latest progression in Artificial Intelligence (AI) Innovation is expected to be run by small language model and agent AI.
IBM Malaysia’s general manager and technology leader Dixon Wu said that SLM provides more efficient and cost -effective AI solutions for enterprises, while the agent enables AI system to operate more autonomous.
“It also helps in completing complex decisions and completing tasks with very little or no human intervention.
“Organizations do not require a large scale, all knowing AI models,” said during “AI ROI: Unlocking Value and Scaling Impact” presentation, “AI ROI: Unlocking Value and Scaling Impact” said, but an AI that is open, targeted and skilled. “
Wu said IBM has introduced IBM Granite, a small AI model with eight billion and two billion parameters, adapted to efficiency and performance.
“This model is integrated into the IBM Whatsenx platform, allowing businesses to implement AI with greater transparency and cooperation within the AI community. With an increased investment in innovations such as Open-SOS AI and Agent AI, companies are expected to accelerate their digital changes to compete rapidly in complex global market. ,
Wu said that the agent AI built on SLM technology is becoming more accessible to small and medium enterprises due to its low cost and ease of implementation.
He said, “It is more cost effective, and adoption from a technical point of view is also easy,” he said, the model requires low computing resources and reduces the total cost of ownership significantly.
As these AI models consume low energy and require less technical resources, Wu said, SME can now deploy AI-operated solutions, which traditionally associated with AI adoption without heavy financial burden.
According to the latest IBM report, companies worldwide are moving towards Open-SOS AI Tools to maximize returns (ROIs) and drive innovations on investment (ROI).
“A study conducted by IBM in collaboration with Morning Consult and Lopez Research found that 89% of organizations plan to increase or maintain their AI investment in 2025. 62% of this will increase their allocation, with an increase between about two-five (39%) scheme 25% and 50%.
“Companies are now focusing on strategic AI investments, especially in IT operations (63%), data quality management (46%), and product and service innovation (41%),” he said.
He said, “The study also revealed a significant increase in open-source AI adoption, with 51% of companies receive positive ROIs, which compared to just 41% in organizations that do not take this approach,” he said.
Wu stated that the major strategies employed by companies for 2025 include adopting managed cloud services (51%), recruitment of special AI talent (48%), and an increase in use of open-source solutions (48%).
Furthermore, since the introduction of IBM Granite, he said in various industries such as healthcare, manufacturing, utilities and public services, interest in agent AI.
“Many organizations are already engaged with us to develop agents AI models, and we are currently in proof-of-concept stage with many of them,” Wu said.
