Colombo: Sri Lanka made power cuts for the third day on Thursday, as it scrambled to restore its national grid with full capacity, when a monkey triggers a wide blackout over the weekend, which to 22 million people of the island Interrupted supply.
On Sunday, an outage lasting six hours was convicted by Power Minister Kumara Jaikodi on a monkey, which disrupted a grid station in a Colombo suburb. No power cuts were implemented on Wednesday, which was a holiday in Sri Lanka.
The animal was exposed to the transformer at the station, interrupting the supply throughout the country. There was no immediate details on whether the monkey had survived the incident or not.
The one -hour power cut will be implemented from 6 pm (1230 GMT), the Electricity Monopo -run by the state of the island, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) said in a statement.
The CEB said that Sunday’s disintegration also affected only 900 MW coal power plant in the island, making it operated in safe mode.
The CEB’s statement said, “All efforts are being made to restore the grid with full capacity, but the power cuts will be implemented to manage peak demand hours at night.”
Ninety minutes of power cuts were implemented on Monday and Tuesday to manage the demand. The outage was being investigated by the Ministry of Energy.
