Iskander Putari: Microsoft’s Regional Legal Director for Asia-Pacific Jeth Lee stated that Artificial Intelligence (AI), Quantum Computing and the next generation digital technologies depend on the strong infrastructure supported by the future partnership between the industry and the government.
He said that AI progress is deeply contained in data centers such as physical infrastructure, which are necessary to support the growing charge in the cloud.
“Artificial intelligence does not work in a vacuum. They run in workload clouds and are outlined by physical data centers,” he said.
Lee was speaking as a panelist in Nikkei Forum Medini 2025 at the next generation of computing power to empower computing power – promoting Asia’s innovation with AI and data centers today.
Lee emphasized the importance of cross-border data flow and regional participation, especially with governments such as Malaysia, which she described as a “forward-looking digital policy”.
“It cannot be operated by the private sector alone. Public-private partnerships are necessary. Countries like Malaysia, with visionary digital initiatives, play an important role in ensuring that we can build a infrastructure that is safe, durable and globally,” he said.
He said that in the next five to ten years, stability, security and governance would define the columns of digital development.
“This is a flight to basic things. Beyond economic drivers, we will look at the stability and cross -border regime to unlock the actual value of AI and other technologies,” he said.
Recently, Microsoft has announced the general availability of its Malaysia West Cloud region, which has been launched as part of its US $ 2.2 billion investment in the country.
The new cloud region located in Greater Kuala Lumpur will provide world class AI datasentray infrastructure and enable organizations to securely accelerate innovation-supporting a future that is inclusive, durable and A-Taiyar.
