Taipei: Taiwan wants peace and dialogue with China, but the government should continue to strengthen the rescue of the island, President Lai Ching-T on Tuesday said that he completed one year in the office.
China has called Lee a “separatist” and has rejected many of its proposals for talks. LAI rejected the claims of China’s sovereignty on the democratic and separate ruled island, saying that only the people of Taiwan can decide their future.
The government has warned that Beijing may mark the anniversary with military exercises, but while speaking to reporters at the presidential office in Central Taipei, Lai gave a message of peace.
He said, “I am also committed to peace. Because peace is precious and there is no winner in war. But when it comes to demanding peace, we cannot have dreams nor confusion,” he said.
Taiwan will continue to strengthen his defense because Lai said the best way to avoid preparing for war.
“I also repeat here – Taiwan is happy to exchange and cooperation with China until the mutual dignity is. Dialogue to change the conflict, using exchanges to replace Heming.”
China’s Taiwan Affairs Office on Tuesday called the LAI’s speech “a two-proclaimed strategy”, which is “waste of attempt and wasted to fail.”
Office spokesperson Chen Binhua said in a statement, “What leaders of Taiwan region or how they say it cannot change the fact that Taiwan is a part of China … nor can it stop the unavoidable tendency of national reunion.”
China’s Defense Ministry said last week that LAI was a “Taiwan Strait Crisis Maker”, which reduced opposition and conflict and peace and stability.
LAI also faces a challenge from a potential American tariff, currently on break, and said that the conversation with Washington continued “smoothly”.
He said that the government has also planned to set up a sovereign money fund to promote the tech-centric economy.
“The government will set up a sovereign fund to create a national investment platform, which will make full use of Taiwan’s industrial powers under the government’s leadership with the power of private enterprises,” the government said. ,
After completing his media event, LAI attended the opening ceremony for the ongoing Computex Trade Show, where AI Darling NVIDIA (NVDA.O) CEO Taiwan Born in Taiwan, Jensen Huaneng, is star attraction.
LAI visited booths of NVIDIA suppliers and partners, including FoxConn (2317.TW) and MediaTek (2454.TW), interacting with senior officials there.
