Incoming Border Czar Thomas Homan says President-elect Donald Trump will restore the authority of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to protect American workers by eliminating workplace enforcement raids and reinstating the “Remain in Mexico” border policy.
“We haven’t really worked out a plan for workplace enforcement,” Homan said. Washington stateThis is about allowing ICE agents to conduct this kind of immigration enforcement. “We know employers are going to be upset.”
In February 2021, Biden took away ICE’s ability to conduct workplace enforcement raids. At that time, an agency official said Post That the administration “has dismantled ICE without dismantling ICE.”
Homan said that in addition to protecting American workers from illegal employment, the incoming Trump administration would reinstate the policy of remaining in Mexico at the southern border, which Biden ended on his first day in office.
Remain in Mexico was first created and imposed by the Trump administration, helping to drastically cut down on asylum fraud by ensuring that migrants are not released into the U.S. interior while awaiting their immigration hearings.
Homan said the next administration would similarly build soft-side facilities that would house migrant adults with the children they arrive at the border with.
“We need to show the American people that we can do this and not be inhumane about it,” Homan said. Post“We cannot lose the trust of the American people.”
