He said that the lorry driver is currently undergoing further treatment for head and hip injuries.
“Further investigation is being conducted to complete the investigation and identify the overall cause of the incident and the matter is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said in a statement today.
Yahya said in the incident at around 4.30pm, a trailer carrying iron dust hit a Honda City, driven by a 55-year-old man, carrying three passengers aged between one and 58.
He said preliminary investigation revealed that the trailer was traveling from Kuala Lumpur towards Kuantan, but it was believed to have lost control while going down a hill and around a bend at the incident site.
“The lorry then veered off the left side of the road before colliding with a car in the left lane.
“As a result of the accident, the driver of the car and three passengers died on the spot and the bodies of all the victims were taken to Temerloh Hospital Forensic Unit for post-mortem yesterday,” he said.
Earlier, it took about two hours for a team of Pahang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) personnel to rescue all the trapped victims.
It is understood that while the operation to remove the vehicle was underway after successfully evacuating all the victims, the trailer also caught fire.
