In the last few days, the nuances of President Donald Trump’s tariff have changed significantly. Now, it seems that a complete host of electronics including most smartphones will be excluded from the new tariff.
According to the guidelines issued on Friday from customs and border security, there are 20 products that are free from 125 percent of tariffs imposed on sugar imports and are also 10 percent baseline tariffs updated on imports from other countries. Under the update guidance, there was nothing about the current 20 percent tariff on Chinese goods. Exempted products include smartphones, computers, semiconductors and flat-panel display modules. Meanwhile, China increased by 125%on US imports.
Update: All tariff price increases in the technical world so far
White House Deputy Press Secretary Kush Desai told CNBC that “President Trump has clarified that America cannot trust China, such as creating important techniques such as semiconductors, chips, smartphones and laptops.”

Desai said in a statement, “Under the direction of the President, these companies are hustling for their manufacturing as soon as possible in the United States.”
The CNBC said earlier this week that in response to the proposed 125 percent tariffs proposed earlier this month, people bought Ephone in panic, fearing that they would be excluded from the tech after putting them in the tariff once. Apple was estimating great difficulties in response. This new tariff drop can be good news for Apple – at least for now.
