The Mizan news agency of the Iranian judiciary said on Tuesday that two British citizens detained in Iran have been accused of espionage after allegedly collecting information in various parts of the country.

Both were nominated as Craig and Lindsay Foreman, and their family said on Saturday that they were engaged with the pair’s goodness and relevant officials to return home safely.
“The detained persons entered the country as tourists and collected information in many provinces of the country,” Mizan said, without giving more information. British media has said that they are a married couple.

Mizan, citing a judicial officer, said that both were associated with intelligence services and the alleged link was under investigation.
The British Foreign Office said in a statement on Tuesday that it was deeply concerned with the reports, and it continued to extend the matter directly with the Iranian officials.
The Foreign Office said, “We are providing them with consular assistance to them (two British citizens) and are in close contact with their family members.”

Iran’s elite revolutionary guards have arrested dozens of foreigners and double citizens in recent years, mostly on allegations related to espionage and security.
Human rights groups and some Western countries have accused Iran that they are trying to win concessions from other countries through arrest in security charges. Tehran denies such allegations.
