Emily Wilson, the British-American classicist whose 2017 translation of the epic poem was one of the director’s inspirations, was asked for her opinion odyssey Film by Associated Press.
“I want to celebrate the fact that so many people know about odyssey And they were brought back into poetry,” she told the AP. “But at the same time, I realized that Christopher Nolan was trying to cover everything while missing the themes that were essential to poetry.”
‘The Odyssey’ alludes to three myths without detailing them. There are untold stories here.
Nolan has cited Wilson’s work in his influences for the film, particularly Homer’s opening line, “Tell me about a complicated man.”

Admittedly, regardless of the IMAX screen size, trying to fit every last element of Homer’s 12,000-line poem into a film running less than three hours is no less than a daunting task. Hits Nolan’s key plot points odysseySpanning 20 years – running between the Trojan Horse, Penelope’s (Anne Hathaway) scornful suitor, Odysseus (Matt Damon) and his men along the way, the Cyclops Polythemus (Bill Irwin), the Sirens, the monster Scylla and the nymph Calypso (Charlize Theron) – he deliberately leaves many of the myths untold.

And Nolan’s film gives women more agency than his previous work, as Mashable’s Belen Edwards wrote in her review, “Nolan makes sure to emphasize the women odyssey‘s complications, as opposed to letting them linger on the sidelines or in the dead wife montage. Most importantly, it allows them to be angry.”
