A laborer was fined RM6,500 for abusing and kicking an on-duty police officer during a raid in Machang.
Machang: The Magistrates Court today fined a laborer RM6,500 for abusing and kicking an on-duty police officer during a raid in Kampung Laklok two weeks ago.
Mohammed Arif Hakimi Che Ghani, 26, entered a guilty plea after the charges were read out before Magistrate Rais Imran Hamid.
He was accused of deliberately obstructing sub-inspector Mohammad Zulkifli Mat from carrying out his official duties by abusing him before kicking the officer at around 8.15 pm on June 27.
The charge was laid under Section 186 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to two years or a fine of up to RM10,000 or both if found guilty.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Sati Asma Che Omar appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was represented by National Legal Aid Foundation lawyer Nor Husniza Akmal Hussain.
Before handing down the sentence, Magistrate Raees Imran reprimanded the accused for verbally abusing and obstructing a police officer on duty.
He then fined Mohd Arif Hakimi a fine of RM6,500, or nine months’ jail in default of payment. The accused paid the fine.
