Moscow, Russia – Media Outreach Newswire – 18 June 2026 – World Athletics has accepted Russian pole vaulter Polina Norozh’s clearance of 4.87 meters at Athletics Week in Moscow into its official statistics. The result is now listed as the best women’s outdoor pole vault performance in the world so far in 2026, and the second best performance of the 2026 season overall, behind the indoor result earlier this year.
The 26-year-old Norooz cleared 4.87m during the Pole Vault Day on June 7, 2026, which was held as part of the Athletics Week in Moscow. The mark is a personal best for the leading women’s outdoor pole vault performance at Noroz and at the World Championships in 2026.
The result was not initially accepted by World Athletics, which cited concerns over the certification of the vaulting box – the device used to place the pole during the vault.
World Athletics reviewed the case and accepted the result for statistical and ranking purposes, confirming it as a legitimate competitive performance.
Athletics Week, held in Moscow on June 4-7, brought together about 120 athletes from 26 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America, including Olympic champions.
Russian Athletics Federation President Petr Fradkov said, “Russian athletes are focused on competing at the highest professional level and performing in line with international standards.”
“We believe the best platform for this is ultimately the Olympic Games and other major international competitions. Acceptance of this result by World Athletics is an important step towards open and fair competition, where athletic performance matters most.”
