Collaboration between zakat institutions and private companies helps 1,000 asanaf perform Umrah, strengthening Malaysia’s Islamic welfare system.
sepang: Collaboration between state zakat institutions and the private sector to help the asanaf perform Umrah is vital to expanding Malaysia’s Islamic welfare network.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Dr Mohd Naim Mokhtar said initiatives such as the Umrah 1,000 Asnaf campaign demonstrate efforts to spread the benefits of zakat beyond basic needs.
“Such initiatives not only provide an opportunity to perform Umrah, but also reflect the shared sense of social responsibility between the government, religious institutions and the private sector,” he told reporters at Terminal 2 of Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
The minister described the campaign as an example of how technology can strengthen welfare aid delivery.
He stressed that the data on asanaf provided by state zakat institutions ensures that aid actually reaches eligible people.
Ikhlas Com Travel & Umrah Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Ikhlas Kamaruddin said the campaign, launched in March, uses Asnaf data from state zakat institutions.
This approach enables precise participant selection, ensuring that Umrah opportunities actually go to eligible recipients. – Bernama
