
Keev: Ukraine’s President Volodmi Zelanski signed a decree by putting his war -torn country on track to leave the Landmine Ottawa Convention on his website on Sunday.
The treaty prohibits signators from obtaining, production, stockpilling or using anti-parsonal mines, which are designed to be buried or hidden on the ground.
They often leave the victims mutated if they are not killed immediately, and the help groups condemn the long -term risk of unexplained mines for citizens.
More than 160 countries and regions are the signators of the Ottawa Convention, although neither joined the United States nor Russia.
“I decree by it … to implement Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council’s decision on June 29, 2025 on the return of Ukraine” from the Landmark Convention, Zelanski said.
To be implemented, the decision must still be confirmed by the Ukrainian Parliament and informed to the United Nations.
The Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement, “With Russia’s invasion,” Ukraine is forced to give an unconditional priority to protect its citizens and to protect the state. ,
It said that the decision to withdraw was “difficult but necessary” so that “to protect our land from occupation, and our people protect them from frightening dandruff atrocities.”.
“The move has been demanded long before the reality of the war,” a Ukrainian legalist, Roman Costanko said on social media.

The return of the treaty for more than three years in the Moscow invasion, Kiev’s friendly nations follow the same decisions as all neighbors in Poland, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia – Russia.
In March, human rights groups condemned their intentions to get out of the conference.
