Indonesian police arrested an Australian woman with 59ml of cannabis vape liquid, who could face up to 20 years in jail under strict drug laws.
Mataram: Indonesian police have arrested an Australian woman with 59ml of vape liquid laced with cannabis, she said it was for pain relief but it could land her in jail.
The 53-year-old woman risks spending 20 years in prison under Indonesia’s no-exceptions anti-narcotics laws, narcotics officer I Nyoman Diana Mahardika told AFP on Thursday.
He was arrested last month at his rented home on the resort island of Lombok after police discovered he had received a delivery of liquid cannabis.
She said she used cannabis vapes to relieve knee pain and depression, but Mahardika said it would still be investigated as a crime.
“He must abide by the laws and regulations applicable in our country. As far as narcotics like marijuana are concerned, it should not be possessed, used or traded in our jurisdiction,” he said.
If found guilty, the woman could face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine of two billion rupees ($111,000), Mahrdika said.

Dozens of smugglers are on death row in the country.
Indonesia last carried out an execution in 2016, in which one Indonesian and three Nigerian drug convicts were executed by firing squad.
In March, two British men were sentenced to nine and 11 years in prison respectively after being found guilty of smuggling cocaine into the popular tourist island of Bali.
