On NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday, Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) claimed that Democrats have the “momentum” to defeat President Donald Trump’s “personality cult” in the upcoming midterm elections.
Host Kristen Welker said, “I want to turn to the redistricting fight where the Democrats, as you know, Senator, have faced a series of recent setbacks in the courts. Do you believe the Democrats are in danger of losing their fight to win back the House?”
Van Hollen said, “I don’t. I think the Democrats will win the House because there’s so much momentum there. People are extremely troubled, as they should be, by the fact that, you know, Trump has handled the economy so terribly. Prices are skyrocketing. Life is unaffordable for millions of Americans. He started a war that he promised he wouldn’t do. And so I think the momentum is very high now. Obviously, these The decisions, including the recent one, you know, the attack on the Voting Rights Act, which was a big leap, was a notoriously bad decision, but I think the political winds are blowing so strongly that the Democrats will win the House.
He added, “We need to do everything we can to stop being a complete rubber stamp for Donald Trump. You heard Lindsey Graham. He said, ‘This is the party of Donald Trump.’ It is a personality cult. And we need checks and balances, not a personality cult or rubber stamp.”
