Tel Aviv: Thousands of Israelites ralled in Tel Aviv on Saturday and demanded a deal to end the Gaza war, as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu prepare to meet US President Donald Trump.
According to the region’s civil defense agency, at least 92 people were killed in an Israeli strike in Gaza in Gaza City.
The protesters read a large banner: “All hostages, bring them home now,” as they gathered in the hostage class of Tel Aviv.
Captive Omri Miran’s wife Lishhe Miran-Lavi said that a comprehensive compromise is the only way to stop the slide in the abyss.
He directly addressed Trump by urging Prime Minister Netanyahu to use his influence.
“By lengthening this war, only Omri and other hostages are put in danger even more,” he said.
Netanyahu and Trump are scheduled to meet at the White House on Monday.
On Friday, Netanyahu told the United Nations General Assembly that Israel would “finish the job” against Hamas, even Trump expressed optimism of a ceasefire.
Trump told reporters on Thursday, “It seems that we have a deal on Gaza, I think it’s a deal that the hostages will get back, it’s going to be a deal that will end the war.”
At a rally in Tel Aviv, Ronon Ohail, whose brother Alon Ohail is among the hostages, pressed Netanyahu to agree on a deal.
“No letter, no announcement, no delay. Now there is an opportunity, there is a moment when you can choose to become a leader,” he said.
But Israeli’s far-flung National Security Minister Itmar Ben Gwir warned Netanyahu against agreeing for a deal.
“Mr. Prime Minister, you do not have a mandate to end the war without the full defeat of Hamas,” he posted on X.
Netanyahu’s coalition government depends on the support of far-flung colleagues such as Ben Gwir, who oppose Hamas’s October 2023 attack to end the war.
During the attack, terrorists took 251 people hostage, of which 47 are still held in Gaza, with 25 Israel’s army say that they have died.
According to AFP Tally based on official data, 1,219 people died in this attack.
According to the Health Ministry of Hamas-Run Gaza, Israel’s counter-counterparts in Gaza have also killed at least 65,926 people, mostly citizens. – AFP
