Rolling Stones frontman and rock-n-roll legend Mick Jagger says a singer should avoid politics and simply entertain his fans, unlike extreme leftist Bruce Springsteen, who constantly lectures his fans from the stage.
82 year old Jagger gave his opinion on this new York Times last week podcast when Times Correspondent David Marchese said that born in the USA The singer feels that he needs to impose his politics on his audience at every concert.
Marchese claimed that Springsteen “clearly sees his work as engaging in meaningful conversation with his audience”. This is a unique way for Springsteen to tease his audience from the stage. In fact, there is very little “back” from the audience. With Springsteen, it’s all “ahead” of the stage.
Marchese then asked Jagger how he felt about it all.
However, Jagger was completely dismissive of Springsteen’s need to intimidate his fans.
“Really, the gist of my thing is that my job in the world of live music is [for] The people who come come to have the best time they can possibly have,” Jagger said.
Jagger added, “For two hours or whatever, to forget about all their problems and the problems of the world and their mortgages and all that, just to give them the best time.”
“Really it’s like going to a sporting event, because everything else is being talked about loudly,” he said. “You’re just looking at who’s going to win. You’re not worrying about everything else.”
“You don’t want to lecture them,” he told his listeners.
Of course, 76-year-old Bruce Springsteen takes great pride in burdening his audience with his political statements. He has even declared himself a “patriot” for hating Donald Trump.
And the burden he bears. At every venue. For example, at one of his concerts in May, the 1980s rocker claimed that Trump and his voters are “racists” and “traitors.” And as he continues his politically charged Land of Hope and Dreams US tour, he reads lengthy remarks from the stage at each show.
