Education Ministry prioritizes literacy and numeracy in new blueprint, with RM73.79 million allocated for Perlis school projects
Kangar: The Ministry of Education (MOE) is committed to addressing literacy and numeracy issues among students nationwide, which are also key priorities under the Malaysian Education Blueprint (RPM) 2026-2035.
Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Vo said the ministry will continue its efforts to ensure quality educational services while guaranteeing equal access to education facilities for all.
“Literacy and numeracy have always been among the key priorities of MOE. As I mentioned, the Malaysian Education Blueprint 2026-2035 was launched in January, and all these aspects are included in the plan.
“The entire MOE fraternity supports and deeply appreciates the royal decree of His Majesty the Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalul,” he said after the opening ceremony of the new Perlis State Education Department building today.
Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin s/o Jamalullail, and Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Dr. Hajah Lailatul Shahrin Akashah Khalil were also present.
Speaking during the inauguration of the new building, the King of Perlis said literacy and numeracy issues must be addressed in a focused manner to ensure that every student can master the fundamental skills of reading, writing and arithmetic from primary school onwards.
Meanwhile, Wong said the construction and upgrading of educational infrastructure in Perlis reflects MOE’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the quality of education in the state.
He said a total of 35 projects with an allocation of RM73.79 million are being implemented in Perlis this year, including 10 new projects and 25 ongoing projects under Rolling Plan 1 (RP1) of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP).
“Of the 35 projects in Perlis, 24 involve construction or upgrading works, five involve land acquisition, and six involve the procurement of equipment and facilities,” he said.
Wong said Phase 1 of the construction of the Perlis Malaysia Sports School, which will feature extensive sports facilities, is progressing well and is expected to be completed by January next year.
The scope of Phase 1 includes an administration block, an academic block consisting of 12 classrooms, a canteen, men’s and women’s hostels, a dining hall, a main grandstand, an archery range, a covered open court, a multi-purpose badminton hall, an eight-lane synthetic track, a football field and other facilities constructed as per the established standards, he said.
He said the government has also approved the allocation of RM104 million under RP1 of 13MP for the construction of Phase 2 of the Perlis Malaysia Sports School.
