Beech Grove, Indiana, police officer Brian Elliott died in the line of duty after responding to a domestic disturbance call Monday night.
“It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that today, we have lost one of our own,” WTHR quoted Beech Grove Police Chief Michael Morris as saying.
Elliott and other officers responded to the call shortly after 5:30 pm and were under fire when they arrived at the scene. Both Elliott and another officer were injured and both were taken to the hospital, where Elliott died from his wounds.
Chief Morris provided extensive comments on Facebook:
…Officer Brian Elliott. Officer Elliott, along with two other officers from the Beech Grove Police Department, were dispatched to a disturbance in the 100 block of Diplomat Court at 6:08 p.m. After they arrived, Officer Elliott and another officer were shot. Both officers were taken to Eskenazi Hospital, but despite the best life-saving efforts of medical personnel, Officer Elliott succumbed to his injuries. The other officer, who we are not naming at this time, is currently in stable condition and expected to survive.
“Officer Brian Elliott protected and served his community until the last moment of his life,” the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said.
Before joining Beech Grove Police, Elliott was with MCSO.
