
Once a new Pope is voted, the name he chooses may indicate the direction of the Catholic Church in the coming years.
The announcement “Habemus Papa,”, “We have a pope,” will be made from the balcony of the Basilica of St. Peter. This will be followed by Pontif’s baptism name in Latin, as well as their chosen pope name and meaning.
Q. should the Pope choose to go with the Pope Francis II, it could indicate continuity with the late Pontif’s rustic heritage, although Francis himself quipped that whoever would succeed him would be John XXIV, named after the Vatican II-Le-Re-Pope.
In the 20th century, the most popular name for pops was Pius, and if chosen, it may indicate that a traditionalist St. Peter’s throne is withdrawn.

Natalia Imperatory-Li, president of religious studies at Manhattan University, said, “In the deepest holiday of his brain, when he starts the conclave, everyone will walk there with a name in his head.”
For the first 1,000 -year majority of the church, Pops used their names, although the first exception was Roman Merkurius in the 6th century, nominated for a fetish God and he chose John II.
Adopting a name during the 11th century became common, the period of the German platform, who chose the initial bishops by “desire to indicate continuity”, a historian Rev Roberto Rejoli, a historian at Rome’s Pontifical Gregorian University, told The Wire Service.

By the middle of the 20th century, it was not that the new platform started selecting names, indicating the direction of his sinner, Rajoli said.
“Still, as we are waiting for the new Pope, the name with which he will present himself will help us understand the horizon for which he wants to move forward,” Rajoli said.
Names such as urban and innocent have not been used for centuries, and Imratori-Li said they did not think that no one would choose the latter, in view of misbehavior and scams that shook the church.

“I don’t think this would be the right choice,” he said.
The most recent names selected include Francis, Benedict and John Paul.
AP said Francis focused on those who are often seen as outsiders, including poor, prisoners and LGBTQ+ communities, while promoting peace, brotherhood and care for the environment.

The Benedict selected in 2005 was chosen as he wanted to pay tribute to the Benedict XV, who led the Catholic Church during the First World War and dedicated himself to fix the changes of the war.
John Paul chose his name, indicating a commitment to reforms, which involves bypassing the Latin mass in favor of local languages and other religions, the most important Judaism.
But it is still a new pope choice that had never been used before.
“It will open a new season and it can mean that his program is not in line with any of his predecessors, so there is another more individual program,” Rajoli said.

Emortore-Li suggested another name that may indicate the continuity of Francis’ legacy: Ignatius, for the founder of the Jesuit order of Francis.
“It would be interesting,” he said. “We were never one of them.”
