Perak police report losses of more than RM300,000 in seven cases where scammers defrauded bakeries with fake bulk orders of kuih and other food items.
Ipoh: Police in Perak have filed seven reports of fraud involving fake orders of kuih and food, with losses totaling more than RM300,000.
Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Noordin said the scammers’ modus operandi starts with placing a large initial order with a bakery or catering business.
He said the suspects would later request additional items that the victim’s business does not typically produce.
“The suspects would then allegedly provide the telephone number of another operator who could supply the requested items, and ask the first business operator to contact them at that number,” he said.
Noor Hisam said that when victims contact the number provided, the person agrees to supply the items but demands payment in advance.
He revealed that after making the payment, the business operators discovered that the individuals could no longer be contacted and realized that they had been defrauded.
The police chief revealed these details during a media conference following the launch of Ops Selamat 26 for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2026 celebration at the Gopeng Rural Transformation Centre.
