Testimony in a major South African corruption inquiry was briefly clouded on Tuesday by an unscripted moment – a tissue was stuck to the eyebrow of a suspended police chief.
Julius Mkhwanazi, former deputy chief of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department, was testifying before the Madlanga Commission when the strange moment unfolded.
Mkhwanazi, who was suspended in November 2025 amid allegations of misconduct, wiped sweat from his face after answering questions from the commission.
However, a portion of the tissue remained stuck to his head.
