The Trump administration on Monday announced an inquiry after a report by Harvard University and Harvard Law Review that the prestigious legal magazine was selecting articles for publication based on the race of its writers and not on merit.
The announcement has been made as a quarrel over the demands of the administration as the Trump administration and Harvard that the Ivian League University has adopted a series of changes, including its DEI – Variety, Equity and Inclusion – Eliminating programs for ideological red flags – and screening international students.
Two weeks ago, the Trump administration grant a $ 2.2 billion to Harvard due to concerns about antismitism on campuses and other issues.
Harvard filed a case against the administration last week, challenging the validity of the freeze.
On Monday, civil rights offices of both the Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services said that they would investigate allegations of discriminatory practices in the review of Harvard law.
According to a joint statement issued by the departments, “In response to the investigation ED and HHS, Journal membership and practices have been obtained about policies and practices, which can violate the title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.”
Title VI bars to the recipients of federal financial aid – such as Harvard – “by discriminating on the basis of race, color, or national origin in the recipient’s programs or activities, the departments mentioned.

The departments stated that they would investigate the relationship of Harvard with a review of the law, “including financial relations, oversight processes and other documents for both membership and membership and article publication.”
“Harvard Law School is committed to ensuring that the programs and activities are all in compliance with the applied laws and to investigate any reliable alleged violations,” said a CNBC statement said in a statement by a CNBC said in a CNBC statement.
The spokesman said, “Harvard Law Review is an organization run by a student who is legally independent of law school.” “A claim brought in 2018 was rejected by the US district court for the Massachusetts district.”
In that case, a group had sued a review of the law against the faculty, alumni, and students against racial preferences, sued the review of the law, Fellow of Harvard Law School and Harvard College said that the law reviews had violated the requirements of the title VI and the title IX, which was using races and sexual options to choose its members.
A judge of the district court dismissed the trial in August 2019, which found that the plaintiff had a lack of legal status and failed to claim it.
The CNBC has requested the comment from both the current and recent presidents of the law review on the investigation.
In 1990, former President Barack Obama first became a student of Black Harvard Law School, who was once elected as the chairman of the law review.
The investigation was announced three days after the Washington Free Beckon, a conservative news site, published an article under the headline, “Exclusive: Harvard Law Review from internal documents revealed a comprehensive pattern of racial discrimination.”
This article, stating that there were internal documents in Harvard Law Review, which were spread for more than four years, the documents said “a pattern of widespread race in the country’s top law reveals a pattern of discrimination in the country’s top law.
Threatening to sink the journal and Harvard, already in war with the federal government, even more deep crisis. ,
The article claimed that “only more than half of the journal members … are recruited only on the basis of academic performance.”
“The rest is elected by a ‘overall review committee’, which, according to the resolution passed in 2021, is defined to include the breed, gender identity, and sexual orientation – its first priority, included the” Composite Review Committee “,” said in the article.
Free Beacon also stated that Law Review has “included the race at almost every stage of its article selection process,” and that “the editors have been regularly beaten or killed by the editors regularly in the writer’s race.”
On Monday, the joint statement by US departments announced his investigation, cited an article of free beacon in quoting a law review editor, who wrote that it was ‘related “that” “” “” “” “” “” said “‘” “” said people.[f]Among our five people who wanted to answer an article about police reform ‘are’ white people. ” ,
The statement also quoted another line in the article, stating that another HLR editor suggested that “a piece should be subject to a rapid review as the author was a minority.”
In a statement, the Acting Assistant Secretary of the Department of Education Craig Trainer said in a statement, “Harvard Law Review appears to choose the winners and loser based on the race, employs a poor system in which the legal scholar has a race, if not, then not more, not much, is important with the qualification of submission.”
“The demands of the title VI are clear: Federal Financial Assistance Receits cannot discriminate on the basis of race, color or national origin,” the trainer said.
“No institution – no matter whether its lineage, prestige, or wealth – is above the law. The Trump administration will not allow Harvard, or any other recipient of federal funds to trample anyone’s civil rights.”
