Washington: Trump administration has exempted smartphones, computers and other electronics from punishing its “mutual” tariffs-reducing the cost effect on American consumers to host high-tech products.
The exemption published late Friday in a notice by the US Customs and Border Protection Office covers various electronic goods, including smartphones and components entering the United States, which is currently subject to a shocking additional 145 percent tariff.
The semiconductors are also excluded from 10 percent of the “baseline” 10 percent tariff on most US trading partners.
