When the Palisades Fire was spreading through neighborhoods around Los Angeles this year, Chubb sprang into action.
We had a command center right outside the evacuation zone and deployed adjusters there within days of the fire, and we proactively secured homes and condos in anticipation of customers needing a place to stay, and relocated some families within just 48 hours.
While officials worked to contain the fire and search for missing people, we went to hotels, offices, friends’ homes or anywhere our clients sought shelter to meet them face-to-face and listen empathetically. We’ll bring them a cup of coffee, explain their policy, and get a lot of the groundwork done for their claim, like a title search and getting mortgage payment statements. We have created a platform for prompt payment of covered claims.
This event was unique because we did not have early access. So, we were resourceful and used aerial imagery along with Wildfire Defense Services (WDS) imaging and geocoding to see how customers’ properties were performing. In many cases, we were providing our customers with the first update on whether their home was able to contain the fire.
Gaining access to assets was not our initial focus – our customers were. With the fire still raging, our priority was to reach customers who had evacuated their homes and needed help. A lot of the claims work was completed before we even got to the scene of the loss – which made a huge difference.
If a customer must leave their vehicle on the road during an evacuation, a Chubb Towing salesman will collect it once it is tagged and verified by the California Highway Patrol, so our customers don’t have to worry about finding their vehicle on their own.
When we finally got to the site, it was too late, the entrances were blocked by the National Guard. A customer who evacuated her home had nowhere to safely keep her highly valuable jewellery. Chubb arranged for a vehicle to pick up the items and move them to a safe location, giving our client peace of mind knowing that their valued possessions would be safe until they could be retrieved.
As a result of these efforts, we had 98 percent customer satisfaction in our personal and commercial claims for our Los Angeles wildfire response.
We respond similarly during every major disaster – from Hurricane Helene to the historic winter freeze in Texas. We prepare year-round so that no matter the size or scope, we are ready to respond quickly and be there for our customers in the moments that matter most.
The response to this massive fire epitomizes Chubb’s mission to protect American businesses and people. We’ve been doing this for over 230 years, since our founding in Independence Hall in 1792. Insurance companies like Chubb are needed to empower great American businesses to take the risks necessary to shape the future.
Chubb is also playing a role in energy security. As energy demand increases, Chubb believes nuclear and gas opportunities are growing and he will be there to underwrite them. Climate activists have personally attacked our CEO and tried to disrupt our business because we keep insuring oil and gas companies. We said no to their pressure.
Our record speaks for itself: When President Trump needed a bond, we were there, just as we are for energy companies, manufacturers, construction firms, farmers and small businesses across the country. Our focus remains unwavering – we will continue to protect Americans and their assets.
