Former US Vice President Dick Cheney has passed away, his family announced on Tuesday. He was 84 years old.
Cheney served from 2001 to 2009 under Republican President George W. Served as the 46th Vice President of the United States under Bush.
He also served as Secretary of Defense under Republican George Bush Sr. between 1989 and 1993.

Previously, Cheney served as Gerald Ford’s White House chief of staff in the 1970s, before spending a decade in the House of Representatives.
Dick Cheney’s death was announced in a statement released by the family:
46th Vice President of the United States Richard B. Cheney died last night, November 3, 2025. He was 84 years old.
His loving wife of 61 years, Lynn, his daughters, Liz and Mary, and other family members were with him at the time of his passing.
The former Vice President died of pneumonia and complications of heart and vascular disease.
For decades, Dick Cheney served our country, including as White House Chief of Staff, Congressman from Wyoming, Secretary of Defense, and Vice President of the United States.
Dick Cheney was a great and good man who taught his children and grandchildren to love our country and live a life of courage, honor, love, kindness and fishing.
We are extremely grateful for what Dick Cheney did for our country. And we are extremely blessed to love and be loved by such a great man.
Cheney served as the U.S. Representative for Wyoming’s at-large congressional district from 1979 to 1989, and as the 17th United States Secretary of Defense in the administration of President George H.W.
CNN says Cheney suffered from heart disease most of her adult life and survived multiple heart attacks.

Despite his health issues, he led a full, vigorous life and lived in retirement for several years after a heart transplant in 2012, calling it “the gift of life” in a 2014 interview.
Cheney was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, the son of a longtime Department of Agriculture employee. Senior class president and football co-captain at Casper, he went to Yale on a full scholarship for one year but left with failing grades.
He moved back to Wyoming, eventually enrolling at the University of Wyoming and renewed a relationship with high school girlfriend Lynn Anne Vincent, marrying her in 1964.
He is survived by his wife, Liz, and another daughter, Mary.
