Google is allegedly paying some AI staff to do nothing for a year rather than join rivals

It is difficult to maintain top AI talent between jackfruit competition between Google, Openai and other heavyweight.

Google’s AI Division, Deepmind has resorted to the use of “aggressive” non -compulsion agreements for some AI employees in the UK, which prevent them from working for the contestants for a year, a business insider report.

Some are paid during this time, which is in a longer stretch of PTO. But practice researchers can be left out of quick speed of AI progress, the BI reported.

In the US, FTCs banned most noncomts last year, but it does not apply to Deepmind’s London headquarters.

Last month, in Microsoft AI’s VP posted on X how deepmind staff are reaching them “in despair”, which is more than the challenge of avoiding their non -blocks:
