Israel announced Thursday that it had found the body of Inbar Heyman, the last female hostage remaining in Gaza.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said its intelligence indicated that Heyman was killed at the Nova festival during the October 7, 2023 attacks and that his body was taken to Gaza. He was declared dead on December 15, 2023. Heyman was 27 years old at the time of his death. Heyman is survived by his parents and brother.
The Hostages and Missing Families Forum released a statement on behalf of Hayman’s family after his body was publicly identified.
Heyman’s family said, “It is a feeling that cannot be described, joy mixed with deep sadness. Now Inbar will receive the rest and respect he truly deserves. We are sure that if Inbar were with us today, he would urge us to continue fighting for all 19 of his fellow hostages who remain in captivity.”

Heyman was known as Pink, a talented graffiti artist. Her family is asking the public to wear pink at her funeral and even write her funeral information in pink as opposed to the traditional black letters.
In Israel, funerals of hostages and dead soldiers are often open to the public.

According to the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, al-Atresh leaves behind his parents, nine brothers, 13 sisters, two wives and 13 children.

Following the release of Hayman and Altresh’s remains, the Hostages and Missing Families Forum reiterated its call for Hamas to return the remains of all deceased hostages. By now, in addition to Hayman and al-Atresh, the remains of Staff Sgt. Tamir Nimrodi, Uriel Baruch, Eitan Levi, Yossi Sharabi, Capt. Daniel Peretz, Bipin Joshi and Guy Illuz have been returned to Israel.
The remains of 19 dead hostages remain in Gaza, including 19-year-old US citizen Itay Chen and 21-year-old Omar Neutra. One of the bodies in Gaza is that of Hadar Goldin, who was killed in 2014. His mother, Leah, has been fighting for more than a decade to give her son a proper burial.
