A federal judge has extended a freeze on the Trump administration’s “anti-gunfire funds” for citizens who claimed they were targeted by former President Joe Biden (D)’s administration.
U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema granted the extension on Friday, Just the News reports.
“Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche told Congress earlier this month that the Trump administration was ending plans for the fund because of the bipartisan backlash,” the outlet said. “The federal government’s lawyers argued that, in the face of the administration’s decision to end the plans, the lawsuits against it are moot,” Brinkema argued, adding that the point of controversy “went nowhere.”
The judge had previously agreed to temporarily halt payments in respect of the fund, according to hillWhile Just the News reported, “The $1.776 billion fund was part of a settlement to end Trump’s lawsuit against the IRS over the leaking of his tax returns by contractor Charles Littlejohn, who pleaded guilty.”
Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) pledged his support for an anti-weapon fund in May, Breitbart News reports.
Johnson said:
You know, the timing of the Armament Fund was unfortunate, but I fully support it. Under the Biden administration, there has been massive government weaponization against civilians. For example, in Wisconsin, Judge Trupis – a man who represented President Trump doing exactly what John F. Kennedy did when pollsters were being questioned in Hawaii in the 1960s – is now charged with felony fraud due to weapons of mass murder. They’re destroying that, probably about $2 million worth of legal funds. This is exactly what these funds have been used for in the past. Obama used them. Other presidents have done this. It was just a matter of time. But, of course, the Democrats will always take political advantage here. And I think that’s the only reason why we said, OK, let’s defuse the situation. Let’s go back. Let’s regroup.
And let’s figure out a way to deal with this, because I think this fund is needed. I think that’s only fair when you have weapons on such a large scale against civilians. Something must happen. We’ll probably have to install some kind of railing.
During a recent interview with NBC’s Meet the Press, President Donald Trump spoke about the fund, saying, “People have been hurt so badly by the Biden administration and the radical leftist lunatics who work for Sleepy Joe.”
He continued:
They are cruel, they are violent, what they did to people. And of course, they went after me more than anyone else. They raided Mar-a-Lago and everything else. But people have suffered a lot. He has committed suicide. They have lost their jobs. They have lost their families. They have lost their wives. He has lost everything. They have lost everything because of the fake weaponization of the government.
When asked if he was going to revive it, the President said:
Well, look, it was up to me to give them the money they deserve. People have been destroyed. Lives were destroyed. Many suicides. Just think. People have committed suicide because a bunch of thugs were after them. I personally think the Armament Fund is a great idea.
The Biden administration has targeted conservative groups and media, including Breitbart News, targeted pro-life activists — often at the behest of pro-abortion groups — and also worked to punish Christians who hold traditional values, Breitbart News reported.
