Qualampur: Setail Ventures SDN Bhad, the company behind the Settel app, is moving forward in wider digital mobility services beyond petrol payment such as seamless parking experiences and full electric vehicles (EV) charging integration as it targets the ongoing user growth.
Chief Products and Technology Officer Coke Cheian said that fuel and mobility app has increased to serve more than nine million users, which is supported by 92 NET promoter scores and 4.9-star rating on both Google Play and App Store.
He said, “The plan is to encourage customers to adopt settlements by offering a range of uninterrupted, price-added services beyond fueling only, in doing so, running more traffic at Petronous stations. It is essentially high-level purpose,” he said. Sunbiz Yesterday in an interview on the occasion of Automanica Kuala Lumpur 2025.
Coke said an example of Settel’s extended offer is a completely automatic parking experience at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC).
“No action from the user is necessary – bus drive and drive out, and the payment is automatically cut through the app.”
Coke stated that Settel is also fully integrated with Petronas’ clean energy auxiliary gentari, so that users can be allowed to activate and pay directly to EV chargers through the app. “Imagine coming to KLCC as an EV driver, your license plate is scanned on entry, your parking is tracked, and your car is originally charged, all within all settlements.”
Coke said that Settel is strategically posted in Nexus of dynamics and digital facilities, given that more than 90% of Malaysian families have a vehicle and 95% have smartphones.
“This app is currently integrated across the country in 1,100 Petronas stations, 1,500 feature outlets and workshops and over 2.5 million retail touchpoints. It also supports more than 600 online payment locations and 400 EV charging stations,” he said.
In particular, 44% of EV users continue to use Settel for fuel purchase, which reflects the ability to bridge the transition in electrical mobility while maintaining its main user base.
Coke said that Settel uses data analytics to customize its marketing efforts, where a user lives and how they fuel their vehicle, Coke said.
“We greatly rely on data to run hyper-local targeting strategies. Customers in various states receive personal communication and receive prizes to their location and fuel behavior.
“For example, if a user is driving a luxury vehicle, the system recognizes them as a high-value customer, and we can offer a more attractive prize to encourage continuous engagement. Conversely, a motorcycle rider will receive a separate, more cost-effective incentive that will suit their profile.”
This approach helps customize marketing expenses and ensures better return on investment, he said.
“We cannot adopt a size-fit-all strategy-it is necessary for the encouragement of the right size and allocates the expenditure wisely.”
Beyond marketing, Coke said that Settel also takes advantage of data to manage the risk of fraud and strengthen the cyber security of the platform. “We use data to support fraud prevention efforts, ensuring that we effectively address the risks of fraud, cyber security threats and related concerns.”
